Tinel Timu was born in Romania. His family had immigrated to Canada to escape the dictatorial regime. His father had applied for political asylum in 1971. Tinel, along with his mother and brother, arrived in Quebec on April 13, 1977. This date marked the beginning of his new life in a free country.
